About

From a trucking business
to the comedy stage.

Harmeet Singh Kohli spent 17 years building a transport business before he ever picked up a mic. Today he’s one of Canada’s most-booked multilingual comedians, and that backstory is exactly why he gets real life so well.

Turbaned, trilingual and impossible to put in a box, Harmeet brings the warmth of a guy who’s lived two lives on two continents, and the timing of someone who’s earned every laugh since 2018.

The beginning

Some people find comedy. Harmeet built it, one open mic at a time, while still running a business. In 2018 he walked onto the stage at Canvas Laugh Club in Cyber Hub, Gurgaon, one of India’s most respected comedy venues, and did what every new comedian does: opened for someone else. He watched, he listened, and he learned exactly what makes a room laugh.

Finding the niche

His material was never going to be generic. Harmeet grew up with a front-row seat to the absurdity of desi family life, the weddings with 500 people nobody invited, the aunties who knew your future before you did, the couple goals that look nothing like real couples. He wrote about relationships, superstition, and what it means to be modern and traditional at the same time. Pan-India material that hits in Punjab, Delhi and Toronto alike.

The move to Canada

In 2021 he moved to Vancouver, one of the largest South Asian communities in North America, with almost no one doing what he was about to do. He didn’t arrive with a show booked; he arrived with a point of view and a work ethic. He joined the YukYuk’s circuit, performed at Just for Laughs Vancouver’s Best of the West showcase, and became a Radio Jockey at Red FM Vancouver, Canada’s biggest South Asian radio station, reaching Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary.

The distinction

What set Harmeet apart wasn’t just the languages, it was the fluency. Not code-switching for effect, but performing full sets in English, Hindi and Punjabi, reading the room and finding the right gear for the crowd in front of him. One of Vancouver’s first truly multilingual comedians isn’t a marketing line; it’s what happens when a comedian who grew up between cultures finally finds an audience that reflects that.

Canada Nahi Kaneda & now

His solo touring show, Canada Nahi Kaneda, tells the story of what it actually means to immigrate, the paperwork, the culture shock, the WhatsApp family-group chaos, the realization that home is now two places at once. It has played in Vancouver, Brampton, Abbotsford and Virginia, and runs 80 minutes. Today Harmeet is also the founder of Gigglez Club, hosts weddings and galas as an MC, and keeps doing what he’s done since 2018: walking into rooms full of strangers and making them feel like family.
